As a fellow dog-lover and the author and publisher of Cannabis Animus, I’ve consistently been seeking out the best CBD oil for dogs along with CBD products for people – with special attention to our members and visitors.

CBD Living products have always worked best for our members at Cannabis Animus. I know this because these are the products that our members re-order.  Products that are not re-ordered deliver a strong signal to people in the industry like myself.

Logically, I felt confident about their pet products due to the technology that the company has brought to the marketplace which has lead the industry in CBD water and other delivery forms since 2014.  Nano technology is key to improving bioavailability and bioactivity of CBD products.

Although I’ve recommended CBD for pets in the form of a small gel capsule, they haven’t been all that well received (re-ordered) compared to their “people products”.  Member data and feedback suggests that most pet owners with whom we interacted weren’t attracted to the gel caps – with the exception of a few customers with large dogs that easily gobble them up when added to their food bowl. Woof!

The purpose of this product review is to share some recent developments.  CBD Living has addressed these concerns and preferences with an expanded product line for pets.  This includes a tincture oil that is easily delivered in the form of a CBD oil for dogs.

What Is CBD Oil For Dogs?

Let’s be clear.  There is no difference between CBD for dogs and CBD for people.  However, there are vast differences between the manner and form in which CBD is delivered to all mammals (including dogs) which all have Endocannabinoid.  These differences are primarily revealed by the manner in which the CBD is extracted from the raw plant material of Cannabis (marijuana).

Subsequently, the manner in which the ‘extracted CBD’ is formed into a final product has been found to be even more significant when it comes to transforming the raw CBD molecule from the extracted CBD oil into the most effective final.  These forms incorporate colloidal micelle and lyposome clustering in the final manufacturing process.  Kinda deep into biochemistry here, but it’s important for every pet owner one to know that what is important for you is likewise as important for your pets.

Having made that clear, pet products will (and should) include other nutrients and flavoring that increases the pleasure and acceptance of your pets.  And doesn’t your pet deserve the best in effectiveness and pain relief?

Benefits of CBD Oil For Dogs

CBD (cannabidiol) that is extracted from the Cannabis plant is used to treat seizures, pain, nausea, stress, inflammation and other medical conditions for dogs.  Relief from typical symptoms of aging, illness, and surgeries are a result from the same science and current understanding of the Endocannabinoid System.  This vital anatomy is present within all of us mammals via CB1 and CB2 receptor sites throughout the body.

According to the National Institute of Health, “much of the research into the effects of cannabinoids on the brain is based on animal studies.”  Although animal studies are not considered a substitute for clinical trials on humans, they are an important compliment to the understanding of CBD for pet owners.

Are There Risks in CBD Therapy?

The main risk I've found from my research is somewhat obvious to pet owners.  That is the risk of your pet ingesting THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) which is the only cannabinoid in Cannabis that is responsible for causing ‘intoxicating’ effects, or more accurately referred to as "psychoactive or psychotropic".

THC is not something your pet should ingest, so it is vitally important that owners only administer CBD products that do not contain THC.

Be aware of the fact that there are far too many products advertised that do contain THC.  CBD Living products contain no THC whatsoever, and you are provided the opportunity to scan the QR Code on the labeling that will reveal the 3rd Party Test Results from a licensed and certified testing laboratory.

According to veterinarians, the effects of THC on pets are not life threatening, but it is clearly not pleasant for your pet or yourself should this occur.  You can avoid this by only purchasing CBD products from companies that provide these test results on their labels.  Use your smart phone camera to capture the QR code, and it wil reveal the actual test results from that batch of product when tested.

When in doubt, consult your veterinarian. There may be other ingredients that are not advisable for your pet.

What Is The Best CBD Oil For Dogs?

According to biochemists and veterinarians, the best CBD oil for dogs would be the same CBD that is best for people.  Since all mammals have endocannabinoid systems in their bodies that are specifically designed by nature to be receptive to cannabidiol (CBD), there is essentially no difference between pain and anxiety relief for either you or your pet.

These biochemists have found that by reducing the size of the CBD particles (molecules) in the laboratory they can affect an increase in bioavailability of the CBD administered.

Nanotechnology and nanoscience has become embraced by the higher-quality manufacturers.  Much of nano-sized CBD that is ingested enters the blood stream even before it is metabolized in the liver like CBD topical products do at a 100% level.  And subsequently, virtually none is lost to the digestive process.

Speaking of my personal experience with patients and their pets for over 4 years, I know first-hand that nano CBD simply works better to treat pain and anxiety symptoms for us all.  The question is, will you try an nano CBD product next time for your pet?

CBD Oil Dosage For Dogs

As with people, the best advice from health professionals, scientists, and CBD authorities support the traditional advice of “start slow" and work up the dosage every week until the patient responds in the most optimal way.  Maintain that dose for at least 30 days, and then reduce the dosage if you choose.

After “homeostasis” (meaning natural balance) is achieved, it is often possible to reduce the daily amount of CBD administered.  Like most human patients, most pets do not receive enough quality CBD from their owners for an effective therapy.

Calculating CBD Dosages for Pets

Based on my experience, veterinarians, and pet owners, it’s best to first calculate the amount of CBD delivered to the weight of your dog.  For medicinal purposes, my rule of thumb is to start low with .25 mg of CBD for every pound of your pet’s weight.

For example, if your pet weighs 20 lbs. then 20 X .25 = 5 mg. of CBD daily. And remember, CBD stays in the body for 6 to 8 hours in humans, so dosing your pet twice a day with 5 mg. each time is even more effective for pets as opposed to 3X per day for humans due to reduced weight and size of our pets.

Knowing this, you next need to calculate the amount of oil that should be administered (or call me at 888-302-3600) based on the size of the container which is usually a bottle as shown above with a squeeze-dropper-top to the bottle.

For example, the bottle of CBD Living Calming Tincture Oil for Dogs as shown above contains 1 fl. oz. (approximately 30 milliliters.) of nano CBD oil with a total CBD content of 300mg per bottle.

Nano CBD for Pet Health

At 300 mg. of CBD per bottle, you are providing a 20 lb. dog about 30 days of CBD - 2 doses per day @ 5 mg per dose.  And if you take my advice by dosing your pet 2 times per day after the first week, that means this bottle of CBD Living Pet will last you about 30 days at the minimum recommended dose to start therapy.

You can increase the dosage if your pet is not responsive at that starter level.  That is not uncommon at all, so you simple double the dose for the next week and observe your pet's behavior changes.

Without any reference to other brands, CBD Living Dog Tincture Oil contains no THC whatsoever, and CBD is acknowledged by modern science to be completely non-toxic, so there isn’t a concern for overdose.  The objective is to optimize the dosage for your pet without spending too much money in the process.

You can start with one bottle of the 300 mg version, or choose the 600 mg version for better economics and to make sure you have at least a 30 to 45 day supply to allow for adjusted and proper dosage for your individual pet(s).

If you choose the 300 mg version, I recommend purchasing  a 3-Pack for a 20 to 50lb dog which will ensure you have enough for a proper CBD therapy experience. You'll know what to adjust after a reasonable trial period.

SUMMARY

If there is one thing that I’ve learned along the path of CBD authority, is that there is no substitute for nano CBD when it comes to optimizing results from CBD therapy.  The best CBD oil for a dog is a product that is worthy of your own CBD therapy.  The only substantial difference in this case is some peanut butter flavoring.  WOOF!
