For those of you beginning your journey into understanding why CBD oil for dogs is so important and helpful for your pets, it’s important to understand the difference between marijuana (flower, or buds) and hemp.
Most dog food is essentially fast food for dogs and does not deliver the vast array of healing cannabinoids, phytonutrients, or essential fatty acids that are available from hemp oil.
Although they share the same genus, Cannabis, they are entirely different species of plant with different characteristics with different combinations of over 85 cannabinoids that come into play for our pets as well as ourselves.
The first difference is that hemp (Cannabis ruderalis) contains the non-psychoactive cannabinoid called CBD (cannabidiol) while the other two species of Cannabis (sativa and indica) contain larger amounts of the psychoactive cannabinoid that gets you high called THC (tetrahydrocannabinol).
Since dogs and most other mammals other than humans have difficulty processing altered states of awareness, marijuana or anything containing THC is definitely not recommended for our pets.
Therefore all hemp pet products that I am aware of do not contain it except in unnoticeably small amounts. Veterinarians have concluded that the amount of THC in hemp oil is not detectable by our pets.
The amount of THC in hemp is under .3% and is virtually inert due to the fact that CBD is a protagonist to THC and renders it non-toxic for humans or pets.
Hemp Oil for Pets
Your Dog’s Endocannabinoid System
Are you wondering why Hemp oil for pets has become all the rage? Is it just a fad, or is there sound science behind it?
Well, I do know why. As I mentioned, all mammals have been found to have an endogenous cannabinoid system which means it is naturally contained within, and most importantly connected to almost all of the other systems in our bodies including your pet’s.
Research has determined that this endocannabinoid system is the most integral and essential system in which to maintain a balance. Physiologists and scientists refer to this balance as “homeostasis” and the CBD contained in hemp oil have been proven over and over to achieve this for ourselves and our pets.
Homeostasis is the state where the maintenance of a stable internal environment despite fluctuations in the external environment can occur. The cannabinoid system also helps cells within various systems communicate with one another.
Within your pet’s endocannabinoid system are various “receptor cells” that actively seek out CBD. The problem is that neither our pets nor ourselves get CBD and other essential oil for pets adequately enough from the meat we eat because neither do the animal’s meat that both man and dogs eat.
There are two main receptor cells. CB1 receptors are mostly populated in the central and peripheral nervous systems in all mammals. They are also found in the organs and lymphatic system. CB2 receptors are found mostly in the immune system, but many types of tissue are found to contain both receptors.
In a Project CBD interview with Dr. Gary Richter, DVM, he emphasized that it is key for pet owners to understand that every living mammal has an endogenous cannabinoid system.
This is natural network of “receptor cells” are the ones that signal healing mechanisms to interact.
And so does it exist in our dogs. This endocannabinoid system is potentially the most important physiologic system involved in establishing and maintaining good health and general wellbeing.
Endocannabinoids and their receptors are found throughout your dog’s body: the brain, organs, connective tissues, glands, and immune cells. In each tissue, the endocannabinoid system performs different tasks, but the goal is always the same: homeostasis… or a “balance”.
Hemp Dog Treats
Medicinal hemp-infused rawhide chews provide essential phytonutrients and CBD (cannabidiol) for your pets.
Not only recommended by veterinarians for promoting dental hygiene and fresher breath but the nourishing essential oils and CBD also promote healing while offering pain relief for our injured or aging companions.
Hemp-infused dog treats like HempsPets Rawhide Chews deliver phytonutrients and hemp-based CBD that supports your dog’s primal need for natural-based medicine to help balance their nervous system and bolster their immune system as well.
Nano CBD oil for pets has been shown by our members to be far superior to traditional Hemp Biscuits infused with CBD hemp oil that includes essential phytonutrients that supports your pet's endocannabinoid system.
Research studies have shown that the active ingredients in hemp work with natural essential fatty acids, flavonoids, and terpenes in order to balance and heal your pet’s peripheral nervous system, immune system, cardiopulmonary systems.
Providing pain relief from injuries, surgery, and aging.
Benefits of CBD Oil for Dogs With Cancer and Arthritis
More knowledgeable veterinarians are not only aware of the countless benefits of CBD for humans, but they are also keenly aware of how a mammal’s endocannabinoid system is virtually the same. Therefore we find the same kind of benefits of CBD oil for dogs as we do for humans. CBD hemp oil is an extremely effective treatment for both chronic and acute conditions in our pets.
- Dog Anxiety Treatment
- Pain from Arthritis, Aging, and Post-Surgery Recovery
- Neurological Disorders
- Reduce Tumor and Cancer Cell Growth
- Compromised Immune Systems
- Seizures and Epilepsy
- Aggression and Separation Anxiety
- Appetite Stimulation and Nausea Relief
- Lowers Blood Glucose Levels
- Skin Conditions and Allergy Relief
- Promotes Bone Growth in Older Pets
Studies have been underway for years on the effects of CBD on neurologic diseases, Type I and Type II diabetes, compromised immune systems, anxiety disorders, and cancer to name a few. Vets are finding that CBD hemp oil is an excellent treatment for pain from acute injuries like strains, bone fractures, and breaks.
But the research has gone much farther than that. CBD and hemp oil have been found to reduce the growth of tumors and stop the growth of cancer cells.
CBD from Hemp oil in non-nano form is not as effective at reducing swelling and stiffness common during recovery from surgery or injury. But any CBD is better than no CBD as long has a QR code on the label that tells you everything you want to know about the product's test results from a 3rd Party laboratory.
And while these powerful effects of CBD reduce healing time, they also offer the veterinarian the opportunity to reduce or even eliminate the prescription drugs and medications that cause unwanted side effects... before surgery is required.
Homeopathic Remedies for Dogs
Take a good look at how conventional medications are prescribed for your dog. Typically, chemicals and anti-viral or antibiotic drugs are prescribed to alleviate symptoms of illness by suppressing the patient’s symptoms.
These “medications” are designed to suppress the dog’s symptoms and make them go away. The problem with this conventional approach is that the symptoms just return again later.
Homeopathic remedies for dogs take a different approach by focusing on improving the natural healing power of nature’s own immune system (in humans, dogs, cats… all mammals) so that any predisposition to disease or illness is reduced in the future as well.
Homeopathic remedies for pets like CBD and other hemp pet products like hemp dog treats are designed to feed the immune system so that our pets can heal themselves naturally without the side effects of prescription drugs and medications.
How Safe is CBD Oil For Dogs? And legal??
According to the U.S. National Library of Medicine, extremely high doses of up to 1500mg of CBD in humans have no adverse effect on “physiological parameters” such as body temperature, heart rate, and blood pressure. The same can be said of the observations by scientists all over the world using animals in their studies on CBD.
Most CBD for Dogs is obtained from hemp oil which contains only traces of THC (not good for dogs or pets), and pets respond very similar to humans when given CBD or hemp oil. All 50 States allow the sale and purchase of Hemp oil and CBD for dogs.
Summary
The U.S. Federal Government outlawed hemp production in the 1930s in order to protect the lumber and cotton industry empires using the infamous yellow journalist William Randolph Hurst to propagandize its “Evil”. It was also a threat to another well-developed colossus called the Petroleum Industry because hemp is a 100% sustainable resource for not only construction, paper products, and clothing, but also a superior alternative to all petroleum products… lest I digress.
Therefore, hemp oil is imported legally into the U.S. and used in the production of CBD oil for dogs. Look for products that are EU Certified (European Union) to be assured of quality hemp oil sourcing. Products of all levels of quality are to be expected, so we hope you find the product links helpful.
We look forward to helping you and your dog find optimum health through the daily ingestion of CBD and/or hemp oil.
