My Rating: 10 out of 10

Anxiously awaited by all of our physician and health professional associates and members at Cannabis Animus, I am pleased to update my review of CBD Living Suppositories from CBD Living, the makers of the original nano CBD water and leader in a full range of nano CBD products in the form of gel capsules, sublingual oil tinctures, topical patches, edibles, vape oils, and now... suppositories.

Increased Bioavailability with Nano CBD

CBD Living products have proven to me to be the most effective that I’ve personally tested and reviewed.  I've concluded that this is largely because of their proprietary and patent-pending “nano CBD technology” that has lead the industry for long as I can recall.  Thousands of patients including our Members at Cannabis Animus will attest to their own, similar experiences.

Biochemists and nano-scientists have concluded that by reducing the CBD molecules to more than one millionth the organic size, bioavailability becomes virtually 100% or close to it.

Over the past 3 years of providing CBD Living nano products to our Members, we all report 5 – 10X the effectiveness per dose when compared to traditional hemp oil products or crystalline CBD isolate in MCT, vegetable glycerin, or other base oil.

CBD and Nervous System

CBD and Your Endocannabinoid System

Understanding the basics of how CBD and the Endocannabinoid system is key to understanding neuropathic pain relief as well as anxiety and trauma-related symptoms.

Endocannabinoid receptor cells were discovered in 1980 by National Institutes of Health and Medicine (NIMH) researchers Dr. William Devane and Dr. Allyn Howlett while conducting a government-funded study at the St. Louis University School of Medicine.

Their discoveries revealed that the mammalian brain has receptor sites named "cannabinoid receptors" which respond to the cannabinoids found in the Cannabis plant.  In fact, it turned out to be the most abundant type of transmitters in the brain.

Structurally, and more specifically, CB1 and CB2 receptors are located throughout body tissues and organs as well as the brain and central nervous system.

These “receptor cells” have been shown to immediately receive/attract CBD molecules that are not created naturally within the body’s ECS as well as similar substances which are produced internally by the body.

CBD and the Endocannabinoid System

Any loss of proper balance (“homeostasis”) within the Endocrine System creates a condition known as Endocannabinoid Deficiency Syndrome (EDS).

As mentioned above, all mammals have endocannabinoid systems (ECS). Our ECS has been determined to work in concert with most all other systems of the body and is essential to proper function of the Central and Peripheral Nervous System.  CBD therapy comes into play when natural inflammatory responses to injury and disease create subsequent stress on the immune system, digestive/nutrient uptake.  Hormone systems and other systems of the body become compromised.

The far reacting effects of CBD therapy on patients suffering from a wide range of common diseases and medical conditions continue to expand.  For a deeper dive into your Endocannabinoid System, please consider my article called “Cannabis and The Endocannabinoid System”.

Why CBD Suppositories?

Perhaps the biggest reason for the demand from health professionals is that many prescribed medications can be diluted or even counter-acted by ingesting CBD.  Although demonstrating the power of this natural cannabinoid, it is not what physicians want to see when the prescription medications involved are deemed necessary for patient health or recovery.

Another reason is that medical studies have concluded that vaginal and rectal administration results in higher levels of absorption to the blood stream and tissues compared to oral ingestion or inhalation.

Suppositories typically begin taking effect in 5-15 minutes whereas the same oral meds can take 30 – 90 minutes to reach maximum intended effect.

CBD Living Suppositories work better

Finally, and more obvious, is the need for suppository delivery is when patients cannot take oral meds due to physical limitations like injury to the jaw, mouth, throat, or gastrointestinal conditions, vomiting, and simply tastes bad.

Properly administered (see guidelines below), vaginal and/or rectal delivery of CBD bypasses the digestive tract entirely which includes the liver where prescription medications are metabolized.  Problem solved.

Vaginal Administration

For thousands of years the essential oils from the Cannabis plant species have been used to effectively treat common symptoms from the female menstrual cycle.  Today, many types of vaginal suppositories are prescribed to women for a full range of vaginal pain symptoms including the treatment of endometriosis.

As previously mentioned, suppositories have been proven to provide higher uptake of prescription medications compared to when taken orally.

And that’s important.  But of even greater significance is the bioavailability of CBD in nano-form which makes this product so much more effective for pain relief and inflammation.  Consider too that the proximity of the colon to the vaginal wall will help relieve impacted and/or hardened stool by reducing inflammation in the entire abdominal area.

CBD Living Topical Patches cure Vaginal Pain Symptoms

What is Endometriosis?

According to Endometriosis.org, endometriosis is a serious disorder that affects over 200,000 women every year.  During reproductive years, 1 in 10 women are affected between the ages of 15 and 49.

Endometriosis is described as a condition where tissue that is similar to that found inside the uterus (endometrium) forms on the outside of the uterus.

This is not normal and therefore creates a natural inflammatory response that often results in scar tissue being formed.

This cell tissue can also be found on the surface of the ovaries, pelvic peritoneum, vagina, rectum, bladder, and bowel among other organs and tissues like the diaphragm and lungs.

CBD Suppositories are an excellent treatment for endometriosis

A troubling observation from gynecologists is that early development of endometriosis can be challenging to identify because society has “programmed” people to lead young girls to believe that it is normal to have cramps and discomfort from menstruation.  Regardless of the level of vaginal pain symptoms, this pre-judgement is believed to only extend and delay the possibility of proper diagnosis and treatment.

Symptoms of Endometriosis:

Painful Periods

Chronic Pelvic pain

Physical Fatigue

Mental Stress

Infertility

Some clinical studies have also correlated endometriosis with the development of ovarian cancer, however, it is yet to be determined definitive as a precursor to cancer.

Although endometriosis can be treated relatively well with drugs, long-term use is not suitable due to the side-effects. Surgery is also an alternative, but conditional upon the extent of the disease and skill of the surgeon. The cause of the disease is unknown and considered to be highly correlated with genetic predisposition. Perhaps 1 in 10 as well?

Rectal Administration

People of both biological sexes typically agree that rectal administration of nutrients, supplements, medications, or CBD for that matter, is typically not typically high on most people’s list – regardless of culture.  But, from a scientific and medical perspective, it is often the clear recommendation for obvious reasons like effective treatment for hemorrhoids... and also less obvious reasons.

With this simple method, many conflicts are avoided and significant benefits are realized.

  •  Conflicts with prescription drugs

  • Increased bioavailability and effectiveness

  • More accurate dosing

  • Digestive, mouth, and throat conditions

Physicians recommend CBD suppository

Ok fine, YOU may not be convinced, but the truth is that rectal delivery of CBD can actually make it easier and more effective for those whose intestinal tract is either compromised or otherwise not medically advisable.  Often, it does make sense to avoid the digestive system entirely for administration of medications like CBD - other times it is totally appropriate and even recommended.  Consult your physician.

Hemorrhoids and CBD

Typical, over-the-counter, retail suppositories are purchased for for mild hemorrhoid pain from swelling and burning.  But suppositories that contain nano CBD have been shown to provide better results for actually reducing the size of hemorrhoidal tissue, as well as the pain and discomfort.  Some even can even cause constipation which will worsen the condition instead of helping.

CBD has been proven to be the most effective, natural and non-toxic anti-inflammatory agent available.  So, if you want to try something better for reducing the hemorrhoidal tissue itself, consider using CBD down there for improved results.  Makes sense, doesn't it?

My Personal Results

It’s at times like this in my research and discovery it would be more helpful to be a woman.  That way, I could personally cover both rectal and vaginal administrations.

I do want to be clear that I have not personally tested other brands of CBD suppositories, however I have only the highest recommendations based on my results of CBD Living Suppositories.  I will continue to personally test other CBD suppositories as I have the opportunity to maintain my rating of this product.

Full disclosure, I use CBD in many forms on a daily basis for many years, and I assume you would expect that.

Yet, it is significant experience because I am used to dosing with high-quality, nano CBD and therefore can discern obvious differences or nuances between the best and the least effective.

rectal suppository

Based on my needs (mostly chronic pain & inflammation from osteoarthritis, R & L hip replacements, and occasional anxiety disorder) I decided that my regimen (without other CBD products) would be one (1) CBD Living Suppository first thing in the morning after my morning ‘constitutional’.

This provided me what is generally considered a medical dose of CBD (50-60mg).  And as expected, my results were quite noticeable considering I normally include CBD from my vape pen or dab rig, as wel

  • Chronic pain relief lasted all day

  • No anxiety attack events

  • Sleep was unimpaired and restful

For me, this was not necessarily surprising considering the fact that one (1) CBD Living Suppository provides 50mg. equivalent of nano CBD.  This is the same as me drinking a bottle of CBD Living Water in the morning and another CBD Living Gel Cap a half hour before dinner.  This works for me by keeping CBD in my system overnight for better sleep and control of inflammation from osteoarthritis condition.  (CBD is completely used by the body in 6 – 8 hours)

How To Use Suppositories

  • Go to bathroom and empty colon first.

  • Wash hands with warm soap and water.

  • If suppository is soft, hold it under cool water or place in refrigerator for a few minutes to harden a bit before removing the wrapper.

  • Remove from wrapper.

  • If you want a 25mg dose, cut lengthwise with a thin, clean blade.

  • Put on a finger cot or disposable glove if desired.

  • Lubricate the tip of the suppository with a water soluble lubricant like K-Y Jelly (not petroleum jelly like Vaseline).  If you do not have a lubricant, moisten your rectal area with water.  It helps it to slide in smoothly.

  • Lie on your side with your lower leg straightened out and your upper leg bent upward toward your stomach.

  • Lift upper buttock to expose better access to rectal sphincter.

  • Insert the suppository, pointed end first, with your finger until it passes the sphincter about ½ to 1 inch. (If not inserted past this sphincter muscle, it may pop out.)

  • Hold buttocks together for a few seconds.

  • Remain lying down for at least 5 – 10 minutes minutes to avoid letting the suppository come out.

  • I recommend resting, lying down, for 15 – 20 minutes.

  • Discard used materials and wash your hands thoroughly.

* Keep stored in your refrigerator

Summary

When patients are seeking ways to improve their health and better manage symptoms, they are logically more open to the advice from health professionals.  Other times patients do it begrudgingly, only to soon realize why this age-old method was recommended by their physician.

The fact is, that under certain circumstances, CBD suppositories are the preferred type for delivering CBD without conflicts with the digestive system, liver metabolization, and conflicting prescription meds.

You may already be realizing that this method of delivering medication may work better for you too compared to other non-nano CBD products taken orally.  I've published articles on virtually all of CBD living products for your review.

  1. I found it interesting when you said that CBD can help with any natural inflammatory issues. My wife has been struggling with a lot of endometriosis pain and I’m trying to find other ways to help her. I’ll be sure to find some CBD suppositories that can help with her constant pain.
