Much confusion about vaping CBD oil has been expressed by our visitors and members at Cannabis Animus. Most of it seems to involve understanding the difference between CBD oil and Hemp Oil. I even read a top ranked article from another prominent site that starts right off stating inaccuracies and errors. So, let’s start by clearing that up straight away.
CBD oil is most often sourced from commercially grown hemp from other countries. This “hemp” is one of 3 species of Cannabis called Cannabis ruderalis which contains only about .03% THC. Although this is the psychoactive cannabinoid in Cannabis, it is too low in amount to cause any psychotropic effects in humans.
This is one main reason that it is legal most all States in the U.S. No one in the U.S. Justice Department has ever prosecuted anyone for using any of the 25,000+ products that contain hemp oil. Another reason is because CBD is a completely non-toxic cannabinoid derived from 50 State legally imported hemp oil.
So this is the primary distinction between CBD oil and hemp oil… CBD is extracted from the hemp oil.
Hemp oil has been used for thousands of years as an anti-bacterial, antiseptic, painkiller and treatment for many symptoms, illnesses, and diseases. Today it is used in over 25,000 products, but more relevant to our audience, hemp oil is used mostly in its organically extracted, semi-solid state.
This extracted oil can be purchased containing the full spectrum of polyphenols, phytonutrients, flavonoids, terpenes and CBD which give its characteristic aroma and taste as well as its healing properties. Other forms are also available for commercial use in products where the organic matter is removed and further purified for use as an additive in foods, cosmetics, paints, etc.
As far medicinal products go, Hemp oil is typically applied under the tongue with an eye-dropper/tincture (bottle) for faster absorption. It is also mixed with food or edible products. Generally speaking, organic hemp oil of this kind is not used in vaporizers because it has too many organic solids remaining in it which would not vaporize properly. The cleaner – the better in this regard.
CBD vape oil, CBD e-liquid, and CBD vape juice are all specifically formed for use in vaporizers. The first thing that differentiates CBD vape oil from hemp oil is that all of the ‘solids’ and large particle plant material is removed from the hemp oil extract.
The second difference is that this purified oil is further refined in order to provide clean burning characteristics where only the vapor is produced when heated. This is an important factor affecting a product’s quality and characteristics. Another is the type of oil s as additives that are added to the final product.
After the CBD oil is extrated using the supercritical CO2 process, high quality vape oils like in CBD Living Vape will only use inert and harmless MCT oil (medium chain triglycerides). This is completely non-toxic and is only used for the purpose of facilitating product performance and volume characteristics.
The additives that you want to stay away from are PG and VG. These stand for Propylene Glycol and Vegetable Glycerin. These are often added to facilitate more efficient wicking of oil and allowing you to start vaping sooner. Although these are both approved by the FDA for oral consumption, but the jury is still out on how it affects the lung tissue and cardio pulmonary system. I don’t recommend vape oils, vape juices, or e-liquids that contain either of these additives at this time.
There are 2 basic types of CBD vape products: Concentrated solutions for dab rigs and oil pipes, and disposable e-liquids and oil cartridges (as with vape pens). Within these 2 main categories you will find a myriad of product variations, technologies, and design approaches.
This variety follows the developments in alternative nicotine delivery products. Similarly, you will find products with different strength levels and potencies. Cost is relative to quality of the product’s sourcing and manufacturing process and the amount of CBD per volume of oil.
CBD Living Vape is at the highest end of this spectrum of quality and potency. They use a critical CO2 extraction process and blends natural terpenes back into the MCT oil portion. So, for those of you who are looking for the best economics as well as the highest level of effectiveness, you will find CBD Living Vape cartridges to contain a 50/50% combination of CBD (cannabidiol) to the terpene-enhanced MCT oil additive. Awesome effect and rich flavor.
The pen from CBD Living is more like a surgical instrument when compared to other popular, plastic vape pens like Bhang Sticks. CBD Living’s Vape Pen has a level of construction, technology, and detail that is unmatched in other vape pens.
